New stories from door-to-door visits
One of the houses my wife stopped at this Saturday the man asked her "Is Mark for firearms or against them?" Kim said, "He owns a gun so he's for them." He said, "Then he has my vote!" I would like to confirm that I would consider myself very supportive of our second amendment rights. That goes beyond protecting our right to hunt as some of the Presidential candidates like to define the issue. The second amendment deals with allowing us to protect ourselves, not just hunt. I attended the NRA convention in Louisville last week to keep up with the latest battles that are occurring in that area.
Another house we stopped at this weekend, the man asked if I could meet him for lunch this week so we could talk longer. So I went to meet him and his brother today (Monday) for lunch and we talked for about 2 hours on a variety of topics. It was great! He said he was surprised at my depth of knowledge on the issues. He also gave me a nice donation when we were done and told his brother he better send me one too!
Occasionally there are people that are so upset with the President, that they say they could never vote for another Republican. I really don't mind hearing that. Most of the time they are willing to talk with me about why. I normally agree with them on whatever has them mad and can share my conservative values, my view on what I believe the role of government should be, and why I am willing to fight to protect what this country was founded on. Nine times out of ten, I have a strong supporter before we are done talking.
There are so many common concerns from people on jobs, immigration, property taxes, and education that I am able share my vision with. The response has been great no matter where I go around the district. I'll keep plugging away at it one door at a time.
I hope to see more of you on the campaign trail soon!
Sincerely,
Mark
